WASHINGTON – A former official at the U.S. consulate in Toronto has been sentenced to a year in prison for expediting visas in exchange for gifts of jewelry and trips with exotic dancers.
Mike O'Keefe admitted in court that he expedited 21 visas for an international company named STS Jewels and got presents from the chief executive officer, Sunil Agrawal.
The pair were sentenced together Wednesday for the scheme that was discovered in 2006.
Agrawal, who lives in New York, got probation and a $100,000 fine.
O'Keefe, who now lives in New Hampshire, must return four rings and a necklace he received for himself and his wife. He also must pay $5,000 to compensate for trips New York and Las Vegas with the strippers.
